Ok, this urkes me. I know, I know I haven’t always been the “perfect man” or Prince Charming. I guess I'm a just a sucker for old-fashioned romance and chivalry.
But seriously, I try. 3 things happened last night and they urked me.
1. At the movie theatre I saw a couple walking into the crowded theatre. She had popcorn and a large drink in her hands, he had nothing. She was bumed into and the top came of the soda and split on her and he just kept on walking. Seriously dude. Maybe it’s just my personal idea but don’t make her carry everything or anything A. and B. something that will spill on her.
2. At the gas station last night I pull up and see a lady filling up her tank. I end up on the other side of the pump. When I get out I realize that there is a guy in the passenger seat on the phone. It appears that he was talking to his friends. The door was open and he was laughing and carrying on. Again, this might be a personal thing, but seriously don’t make your woman pump her own gas. Get your lazy butt out of the car and fill up her car.
3. This teenie bopper walks up the closed door holding hands with his little girlfriend and then opens the door and leaves her behind and walks through. Come on, now.
I read something interesting about chivalry in reverse. A gentle woman.
Here's how to tell if your lady can also be a gentle wo-man: - If you open the car door for her and she unlocks your door once she's inside.
- She offers to split the bill at the fancy restaurant you went to for dinner (or even better, she pays for it once in a while
- if she doesn't pay for it, she pays for your movie ticket after dinner).
- She surprises you with that CD you've been talking about or sends you flowers at work.
- She brings you over chicken soup when you're feeling under the weather.
- She shows how appreciative she is of your actions and recognizes how lucky she is.
Chivalry isn't about getting things in return, it's about being recognized to a degree for your actions and knowing that the person you are with will also treat you right. Chivalry is a two-way street, in which you shouldn't be taken for a ride.
I thought that was intriguing, that it can be reciprocated. Just don't be doing it for that reason, that is selfish. Guys get off your bums. They deserve to be treated like the princesses they are.

i LOVE this post.
so i don't think chivalry is dead... i think it has a lot to do with their upbringining... dads.
i've seen this in my family... where my dad wasn't chivalrous with mom so brothers didn't see it and then don't do it themselves once grown. not that my dad is a jerk or my brothers are bums... just not up to par with how i believe men should behave and treat women.
i think it is very important for men to know their roles in the relationship. it is not all about being macho and concerned about what strangers think of them. it is about what the woman thinks of them.
if a woman is willing to be treated like crap.... she is settling for less than what God had planned for her.

Wow.. I googled "Chivalry" and your post came out.
Nice. It was couple years ago though, I'd like to read what you have recently witnessed re Chivalry.
I googled chivalry bc a friend has a blog talk radio show, and tonight I will be talking about Chivalry... hmm.. An unapreciated Virtue nevertheless. :) Kudos.
God bless You,
